For most of us, our first museum experience will be in our local museum. Civic museums are a critical part of England’s cultural, creative and social fabric. They provide a unique perspective and cultural offer for local audiences and communities who are not served by other parts of the museum sector.
Civic museums are predominantly located in towns and cities outside of key tourist locations and play a key role in placemaking, forming and celebrating local identity and in regeneration.
